Enjoy! Posted by: Carla at August 31, 2008 12:41 PM i like this place. my parents friggin love it so whenever they invite me out we go here. service has always been good and the tapas were a good addition. took my girl here and she liked it so it passes that test too. a couple nice flatscreens in the bar so it works when you are trying to watch a ballgame out of the corner of your eye when your girl is telling you a story. i always seem to end up getting the steak tips. everything else i've tried has been good. prices are fair...they could get away with charging a bit more. Posted by: g stacka at June 28, 2008 11:52 PMHave been there not too pleased like people say looks good it is a new restaurant other wise not that great I came here Wednesday night with my husband and my two children. The food was amazing! we got the tower of tapas and it was outstanding. there were so many choices that we didnt know what to do. the octopus salad was one of the best we've had, and trust me, my husband can be hard to please. We also got the seafood casserole and the St. Michael's steak cooked to perfection. the only thing that we wished was that they had a children's menu. there was plenty of food that the kids liked, but no menu for us to see. service was friendly and professional. All the food we've ever had there has been outstanding and very reasonably priced with generous portions. The tower of tapas is really worth doing! One of the best bargains in town and superb offerings. The codfish cakes, spicy shrimp, fried calamari are especially good. For two, the 6 tapas and the Azorean salad (love the grilled pineapple and linguica in it) is more than enough for a full dinner. Am very fond of their sangria, too. Posted by: Evelyn at April 26, 2008 11:36 AM Good food but we are bar people and the bar is to small. Posted by: Monya at March 16, 2008 01:35 PM I believe that this is a wonderful place to eat. If you enjoy spice, great service, great selections at a fair price it is a must. I have currently had 4 different dishes here and every one of them has been EXCELLENT. My husband and I went to the Azorean and loved it. I had the steak tips which melted in my mouth and my husband got seafood sao. It was fabulous. The restaurant is beautiful and very clean......We also order take out..... Posted by: beth at February 1, 2008 09:45 PMI'm so sorry we found this place on the last day of our vacation because we would have gone every night to sample such amazing cuisine. Great bread with olives and fine olive oil served as we arrived. My husband had the Seafood Rice ($21.95) (loaded with fresh seafood including meaty snow crab legs) in a Portuguese tomato sauce, with just enough kick to make it interesting. I had the Azorean Seafood Platter (loaded with seafood, too, including tender Calamari) ($17.95, market price) with the most amazing molho vilao sauce (garlic, vinegar, pepper, and other savory ingredients). The fried coating was light, done just to perfection (the haddock flaked, wasn't dry) and the calamari was not rubbery, the scallops sweet, no grit, and the dish was served with fresh, unadorned green beans. For dessert, the Tarta de Ananas (pineapple coconut cake in a chocolate crust), was sublime. Our server Frank was knowledgeable and helpful, checking back several times to make sure everything was ok. We left with smiles on our faces and full bellies! The Azorean Restaurant is quite charming. Without a doubt, it is also very clean. One would expect it to be since it is a new establishment. I admired its charm and beauty as I sat outside on the beautiful stone patio enjoying the summer breeze. If the cuisine was as good as the Boulevard Ocean View had been, I figured the half hour wait for a table would be well worth it. Unfortunately, the chef’s mouth-watering fare was never meant to pass over my palate that night. Upon being seated, my husband and I patiently waited for a waitperson to approach our table. Five minutes went by and a small group of people were seated at a nearby table. A waitperson promptly showed up at their table. Feeling a little annoyed, we still waited patiently for someone to assist us with our order. It was a busy night and we wanted to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. Ten more minutes went by and another group of people were seated at a table next to us. Within 5 minutes there was someone at their table to take their order. We got up, let them know why we were leaving, and we left. Twenty minutes is an inexcusable amount of time to keep customers waiting. This type of management tends to drive customers away. The restaurant had a feeling of being run by a group of teenagers that night. No one appeared to be in charge. As long as the Azorean is able to keep their current chef, it should see a steady stream of customers. If it should lose this chef, and is unable to bring one in who is equally as talented, it has the potential to fade into the masses along with many of the other restaurants on Cape Ann. Your a joke JBM Good service, fair prices and large servings. The kale soup was outstanding, and the shrimp that I sampled were excellent. But there was hardly any meat at all in the feijoada; it was essentially a huge plate of beans... good beans, but beans nonetheless. We were there on a Saturday night, and it was crowded and very noisy. Antonio's in New Bedford has authentic Portuguese food? The inexpensive part is true and is probably the draw for some of you reviewers but if your looking for authentic, Azorean Restaurant and bar is the best outside of Fall River. Been ther four times over the last three months and have not been dissapointed yet. and Im from Rhode Island. Nane one restaurant were you can get Portuguese favas. Wonderful! Visited Thursday 7/26, approx. 7:30pm, seated right away. Pleasant atmosphere, service was GREAT, my friend and I were very well catered to, the Azorean Martini my new fav YUM!!! Food - wow really good meal! I've never had Portoguese food before so this was "daring" for me. I had the baked haddock, a bit "fishy" for my taste but overall good, my friend had the grilled salted cod which not anything I would ever order but he said it was wonderful, just like the dishes he grew up having in his Portoguese family. The cheese tray (appetizer) very tasty, okay EVERYTHING was very tasty! We are headed back this weekend to try some more of this flavorful good food! Also this will sound weird but it had the cleanest bathroom I have ever been in! That is appreciated! Posted by: Kristin at July 31, 2007 04:50 PM I went to beach in Gloucester today and just happened to drive by the Azorean restaurant. Being Portuguese and not from the area I just had to stop. The place was very clean and the food was extremely authentic. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised. It felt like we were home again. Even though we live 1.5 hours away, we'll try to go back as often as we can because the food, service and environment was worth it. After reading some of the previous reviews, I have some things to offer -- (1) Portuguese food from the Azores is spicy, that's just the way it is (2) authentic enough? I thought my mother was in the kitchen! Posted by: Patrick at June 23, 2007 07:48 PMI heard this place was pretty but the food was to spicy. The chef from from the Boulvard Restaurant was hired for Deo Braga's place but Deo has him add all these spices. Let him cook his way Deo. He's a great chef on his own. I also heard the steak is like leather. Posted by: Tammy at May 18, 2007 02:59 PMNICE! GREAT ADDITION TO GLOUCESTER EATING. GONE TWICE AND WE WILL BE REPEAT CUSTOMERS. NICELY DECORATED AND CLEAN. SERVICE FROM THE MINUTE YOU ENTER UNTIL YOU LEAVE IS ABOVE PAR. NOT OVERWHELMING BUT GENUINE. I LIKE THE FISH DISHES AND START WITH THE CODFISH APPETIZER. MY WIFE LIKES THEIR PORK. NOT KEEN ABOUT STAR RATINGS. WORDS SHOULD BE ENOUGH! IF I SAY FIVE STARS PEOPLE WOULD UNFAIRLY COMPARE THEM TO A PLACE LIKE DELMONICOS IN VEGAS. CHECK OUT THEIR WEB SITE AZOREANRESTAURANT.COM. i really want this restuarant to succeed- portuguese cuisine in gloucester is a great idea, and they've clearly poured a lot of money and care into getting this place started, not impressed on my first visit but will give them a second look. Service extremely slow and the waitstaff is really disorganized. Order times are excessive. Hoping they get under control and will try again. Posted by: stan at February 8, 2007 07:09 PMWe have eaten there twice and will reserve a real review until the get rolling. It is certainly nothing like Antonio's in New Bedford where they serve authentic, delicious, and inexpensive fare. Gloucester needs a new restaurant, especially one that treats you like they want your business. I will go again. Posted by: bill at February 8, 2007 06:10 PMPost a review! (Read Posting Guidelines.)
