Reviews!

This is in response to the guy that had the horrifying experience at Zekes. I have never eaten there and never will after the experience you had. I can recommend my two favorites for you to try. I love both Georges on Washington St. and Sugar Magnolias downtown. The quality of food is similar at both. Georges has the bigger portions with more reasonable pricing. Sugar Magnolias has the more modern decor and Georges has more of the coffee shop feel to it. Both are great and may change your blah feelings about breakfast.

I have a feeling about breakfast joints. They're either OK or not. I am hard pressed to remember a time I was ever wowed by a breakfast I received in a restaurant. That being said, the bar is already set pretty low, so as long as you have a cozy atmosphere and don't screw up my meal I'm happy. Well, this morning was an appalling experience at Zeke's Place in Gloucester, MA.
The food has never been anything to write home about, but we've always enjoyed the service there. Recently my brother, who is allergic to penicillin, found what appeared to be mold in the cheese that was half melted over his omelet. After returning the meal to the kitchen, our waitress relayed a message from the owner who also cooks a good deal of the time. His message? "Get over it."
Sure, I am on a first name basis with the business owner since I have frequented this establishment on numerous occasions, but this was not my meal. This was also a potentially life threatening situation, or at the very least a health concern. I don't believe that my brother was willing to experiment with the status of his childhood allergy to a common food mold.
Although our experience this morning was ruined, our feelings towards Zeke's Place might have been salvaged by at the very least an apology. The owner's crass attitude and general lack of remorse has made it clear that our money is not welcome at Zeke's Place.
I hear Lee's right around the corner on Main Street has a good breakfast. For the more discriminating palette, I have heard good things about Sugar Magnolia's further down on Main.
To their credit, the dish was removed from the bill, but we would have insisted upon this if it hadn't.

My two cents? Zeke's ain't worth the gamble.

This is now ZEKE's and is a great place for breakfast. I hear he is going to start doing dinners too. Homemade everything, good service, and nice portions.
