Great pizza ! and delivered!

Posted by: Kim at April 11, 2009 03:15 PM

I've been ordering at Mike's for years... probably around 6-7 years at this point after having moved up to Gloucester from Boston. And, yes, while there have been a few changes (slightly smaller portions, higher prices) I have to say that it has remained at the top of my delivery list for that period of time.

Delivery times have actually shortened dramatically over the years... Now, they always say '45 minutes' and then arrive in 15-20.

I'm not sure where all the 'hair in my food' reviews are coming from... I've never had anything remotely like this occur! I find those reviews to be highly suspect. (BTW, I'm not in any way affiliated with Mike's, management, employees or otherwise.)

It's not all good: I'm not crazy about the chopped /shaved sausage or veal that they serve in the sausage/veal subs (I would prefer sausage chunks and cutlets).

And I don't order Pizza from them regularly enough to comment on the quality.

Anything off the grill has always been fantastic (steak tips, chicken kabobs/salad, burgers/subs).

My latest diet-killing obsession is the pastrami 3-way (cheese, mustard and, yes, lots of mayo).

May I die of cardiac arrest with this nugget of greasy goodness pushed down my throat!

I used to love Mikes. My family used to get take out there quite often. We also used it to cater alot of our events. When the prices went way up and the quality and size went considerably down we frequented alot less. The last time that we ordered there, we called in pizzas because we had a busy night with sport practices. When I went to pick the pizzas up, I was told that they were never ordered. Although I assured the woman that we had definately called in the order, she acted as if I was lying and did not offer to make the pizzas. We have not been there since.

Wow, all the great reviews, looks like someone from Mikes is trying to promote their sub shop. Gives me more reason not to eat here. I have in the past but not as good and clean as this "customer" says. Only one good place in town to get the best food and it starts with an "L".

Always great food-love the pizza and always hot roast beef. One of the cleanest places around and the service is good too! The only place we'll ever order from. Prices are fine with me considering the portions are huge, there is always enough for leftovers.

This use to be a really good sub shop. I have no idea what happened but this place seemed to have gone down the tubes in a matter of a week. The last two times I ordered my favorite chicken kabob salad it was cold and just plain gross. The chicken was filled with inedible tendons. That did it for me and I just don't feel the need to ever return seeings though sub shops are a dime a dozen around here. Maybe Mike's place has a new owner or something... I am not the only person I know who will no longer eat at this place.

a five start sub place for sure.

the staff works very fast and are efficient in the middle of rushes. they are always busy...that's because the food is good. way better than destino's when it comes to most sandwiches.

the highlights are the roast beef, the chicken parm, the chicken kabob, and the steak tips, esp. the honey tips. the calzones are huge and delicious...esp. the chicken kabob calzone.

the turkey is kinda nasty and the italian isn't great for some reason. the large subs could be a little bigger but i'm a hungry dude so i'm always thinking things could be bigger.

if this place upgraded their turkey, chicken wings and chicken fingers, it would be legendary. as it is, this place is great.

i do not like to have pick up. as soon as you walk into the door the staff says "may i help you'' before you can even say hello.
i would prefer destinos

what happened i use to love this place but know it seems they have just lost the passion for good food and replaced it with high prices

Posted by: john at February 23, 2008 03:04 PM

Place use to be good now it sucks.

Posted by: Lauren at November 10, 2007 01:34 PM

Good food. But iv heard that their tips dont go to the employs. It goes to the owner.

Posted by: Jeremy A at September 19, 2007 03:48 PM

we love mikes, we always get delivery because we have small kids and its a pain to go pick up. They are always on time and friendly. the honey steak tips anyway are to die for , i could eat them for breakfast, lunch and diner.

Posted by: tammy at July 21, 2007 11:30 AM

The best food in town.

Posted by: C at June 17, 2007 08:24 PM

Used to like Mike's a lot more.

I think the subs are too greasy (cheese steak in particular). The pizza is fairly good most days, but have had it drastically over/under cooked at times... seems to depend on the cook?

They recently switched their breaded/fried chicken wings (that were very tasty) to a very large, dry chicken wing with no breading (more like a Chinese chicken wing?) and they are TERRIBLE. I actually called to ask if it was just a fluke and told that "no, we changed them" and she mentioned she'd tell "Mike" about my call.

I used to enjoy them as a nice alternative, but since they raised their prices a fair amount last year I've seen the quality change a bit and I just don't enjoy it much.

On the other hand, my friend lives and dies by their chicken kabob salad - so they're getting something right.

Get a reg. beef w/cheese, mayo and sauce and a pizza roll!

Posted by: S at November 8, 2006 09:57 AM

We are regulars here for years. Never anything bad to say about Mike's. The place is clean, the employees are always fast and courtious, and very organized. It can get busy in there, (I can see why!) but my food is always hot and never have to wait too long. Last time we were there got the steak tips and my friend got the chicken kabob. The steak tips have the most unbelievable flavor, and different kinds to choose from! You would think your in a steak house. Roast beef is perfect. I can not comment on everything I've eaten there because everything I get is great. Pizza is almost addictive, not a sweet-out-of-the-can taste. We've been all over, Mike's is always our top choice.

Posted by: andy at August 2, 2006 03:27 PM

would give a review if they hadn't closed early the night i tried to go.

Posted by: joe at March 13, 2006 07:09 PM

Discusting, greassy subs would not order another sub. Staff very rude

Posted by: jack at December 9, 2005 04:06 PM

I eat here all the time. Steak tips are great, burgers are pretty good, calzones are unbelievable. Always get take out and they are always ready by the time I get there. Delivery is a little slow so I prefer to pick up myself. Great food for a reasonable price.

I have had only good experiences here. The staff is friendly, fast and organized. I love everything I have tried there. Especially the calzones and the 3-way roastbeef sandwich.

I GIVE MIKES NO STAR FOR HANDLING MY ORDER VERY POORLY AFTER WAITING IN LINE FOR HALF HOUR I DID GET MY SUB WITH A HAIR ON IT WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE HANDLING OF MY SUB AFTER EMPLOYEE SCRATCHED HER HEAD

Dear "Carl",

We very rarely delete reviews. However, the similarities between your posting and that of "David's" for Bridgeside House of Pizza suggest that there is more to these posts than random customer reviews.

If you have a problem with the deletion of this review, please feel free to contact us at capeannweb@yahoo.com.

Thanks.

good subs, pizza OK. Biggest issue I have is there is too much touching of ready-to-eat food. They should make everyone take serv-safe. Nothing worse than watching the same guy who justtook your money then grab the sub rolls. Can't go back now.

Posted by: spinncognito at February 20, 2005 08:59 PM

Mike's makes the best calzones I've ever had. Their subs and specialty dishes are great, too.
The open kitchen atmosphere and down to earth staff combine to make this place the best sub shop in Gloucester.

Mike's honey barbeque steak tips are to die for!! They literally melt in your mouth. I also love the calzones, they are HUGE!! A large is the size of a pizza.

Posted by: Heather at June 29, 2004 12:58 AM

love mike's...

the roast beef any way - i prefer sauce mayo - the calzones are huge and what a great cheeseburger for $2.50!
