Hello. Martha Louise, who is the only daughter of King Harald and Queen Sonja, gave up the title of 'royal highness' upon her 2002 marriage to writer Ari, and has a reputation for not standing on ceremony. Thank you everyone for a great season we will see you in May 2009! Posted by: Kim at October 5, 2008 02:36 PMMy wife and I had the interesting experience of going to The Studio this summer. Great atmosphere and the biggest and best desk around. Our waitress was excellent however very embarassed by the "manager" who was to be stumbling around and mumbling to herself...clealry on drugs. Horrible manager and the attitude of the waitstaff toward her was apparent. Out of pity for her situation we tipped the waitress very well. Seems to be always hit or miss there - very unpredictable. Sort of luckily for us, the deck and weather was great, but the manager was an embarassment to such a wonderful establishment. Posted by: Steve at September 22, 2008 11:38 PM Food and service has greatly improved but wondering why Michael King is no longer entertaining here. He was the best we've seen at the studio... hire him back if you can THE BEST DECK ON THE NECK is true!!! What a view and not to mention the food and service was excellent. I had the Mahi Special and it couldn't have been cooked with any more perfection and my friend had the Twin Lobster Special it came with two 1 lb. boiled lobsters and two sides. We will be back for sure!! What happened to Sundays on deck with Mike King???? We truly miss him. For the deck and the view - especially at dusk The pits. Well, take that back: great deck. We got their about 8:30, the place more than half empty. We were never seated, finally asked if we could seat ourselves, which we did. Never got menus, finally asked, etc. Ordered soups, then grilled haddock and a grilled salmon, plus caesar salad. Soup came quickly, kinda pasty but tolerable. Entrees came: both were (we think) haddock in a gluey cream sauce. Too hungry to argue, we ate anyway and left. Kids as waitstaff are lovely people but clueless and management doesn't train 'em. I guess you could get by here with fish and chips if you enjoy the view, but you can do better. The live entertainment inside: the best we can say is amusing. They'll never go out of business with this location. As a close year round resident I can only say that this place sucks. The piano bar has its moments, and they do attract some ethnic groups, and two large yachts every year, but this place is not worth even visiting. They must own it free and clear and don't need a profit. TERRIBLE in food and service. Biggest deck though. Posted by: bill at July 31, 2007 07:28 PMI went to the Studio last Saturday for dinner and it is true, the granny is gone!!! The food and the waitstaff were excellent and the management really seems to have gotten their act together! The deck is gorgeous. The best place on Rocky Neck! Posted by: Lauren at July 11, 2007 10:18 AMGood news!!!! The granny will not be in charge of The Studio this year 2007! So we hope things will be back to just the good old Studio. We also heard that a great piano player named Joe Thomas will be there every Saturday night. Not sure of the other weekend nights? So you just might want to give it a try this summer you won't be disappointed!!!!! I have to say last summer already showed alot of improvement so with the same chef, good entertainment, and great sevice you will have a good experience! The chef was decent this year but 'granny' needs to go. You constantly hear her yelling at staff and she seems a bit senile. The staff is young and inexperienced and often rude. Food and service is slow. The entertainment is the only saving grace and granny seems determined to get rid of it. Place seriously needs new ownership and management. Rudder and Madfish are much better choices on Rocky Neck. Posted by: Andy at March 15, 2007 07:46 AMbest deck in town. Worst menu selections and prices too high. Have some simple deck fodd!!!! best deck in town. Worst menu selections and prices too high. Have some simple deck fodd!!!!
I just had a wonderful meal at the Studio. Chef Ron Martel, formerly Executive Chef at Cherrystones Restaurant in Warwick,R.I. makes great crabcakes, with, as the menu says, a balsamic reduction, mustard sauce and veggie slaw. All fresh and delicious. My friend had the Lobster roll. Huge and marvelous. Some people at the next table had come back for lunch having had dinner there the night before. Both of them had had fish for dinner- also fresh and delicious. For lunch one raved about the Chicken Olympia sandwich - a wrap with grilled chicken, spinach and feta, and the other had the vegetable stir fry with shrimp. We all agreed that the servers were pleasant and the food delivered in a timely manner. The deck is a delight. i have gone to the Studio for the piano bar for years, but really didn't eat there for the last couple of years as the food wasn't very good. This year they are batting 1000....so if you have gone there and not liked it, give it another try. The piano bar is still great! Posted by: maria at August 2, 2005 06:34 PMOn 7/18/2005 my intention was to treat my elderley parents to seafood at the Studio.I have had a few ok meals here before but i especially liked the large deck and view out back. What a mistake!!! We all ordered fried clams that were burnt beyond burned. The waitress was very young and inexperienced but I guess you can expect that in a seasonal restaurant! Our bill was $122 and out of compassion for the young waitress we left a good tip. When I told our waitress the clams were awful she went to the manager or chef and they offered to give us some fried clams to take home .NO THanks ! As I write this review my stomach is still unsettled from those nasty clams!!! Never again..... Posted by: Joseph Gibbons at July 20, 2005 10:19 AM5 stars for entertainment,3 stars food. Unfortunately, we just had our worst meal in a long time...at The Studio. The service was VERY SLOW (and the place was virtually empty!), the so-called medium rare steak tips were burned and charred, the shrimp were covered in soggy Ritz crackers, the waitress was kind enough to warn us the chef was having great difficulty cooking the baked potatoes (under cooked!) the corn was cold and the lobster had not been drained. I guess the view was great! Posted by: bill at July 13, 2005 09:51 PMALL YOU HEAR IS YELLING FROM THE STAFF AND THE OWNER GET IT TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Posted by: MEL at June 29, 2005 03:01 PMSI,SI,SI hi there, Dear Reader, I went to the Studio Restaurant for dinner The food was less then ok. I had shrimp scampi. I believe this is one of the ezer plates to cook. The cooks and wait staff spent alot of time yelling, I know they juat opened but what will they do when they set more then 5 people? I found my self waiting for this dish for over 25 min with a small portion. the price was 21 dollars for the scampi alone. At this price I want it cook right. Most items are on the high side. I.e coconut shrimp 19.95 I love them but this is to much to pay. service and food here 1 star if that. this is not the first time here but it is the last. Update: Studio Restaurant does offer Jazz on Sunday nights starting at 6:00 pm. There is also a sing along piano bar Thurs through Sat, and live musicans now playing on the Waterfront deck late afternoons into the evening. Posted by: Kit at July 11, 2004 09:47 PMI would like to add this to the review, Not only was the food and service bad but the best part of this place was the jazz on Sundays nights.m They had the top jazz players in the country there but I went Sunday only to find out that the Owner, Mary has cancelled all the Sunday jazz so now the place has absolutely NOTHING to offer. I had the absolute worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant here ! It was Southern fried chicken, hush puppies and cole slaw..sounds good, right?? God, the chicken was just inedible..dry and with the most awful tasting breading. The hush puppies were sodden balls of lard, very bad. Either replace the existing recipes or take this meal off the menu because it sounds so good and is so disappointing !! Posted by: elliegirl at December 7, 2003 11:39 PMPost a review!
