Reviews!

This place is excellent. No matter what we get, the food and service is always top notch. Seem to have new specials quite often so there is always something for everyone to enjoy. Portions are unbelievable and prices are probably the lowest I have experienced. The owner, Dean (I think) is always making sure his customer's are taken care of.
I would highly recommend to anyone. Don't let the outside appearance sway you from entering. It's awesome.

Great little place - best breakfast in town, and the lunches aren't bad either. Plus, the atmosphere is eclectic and not your average yuppy trap.

Visiting Gloucester as we do every summer and tried Georges, we were told to try it by the gas station attendant. He was right they are unbelievable. It doesn't really look like much from the outside but it is really one of those local places that everyone knows about. whenever we travel I always ask the locals where they eat and I usually have great luck that way. I am so glad to have discovered this local hot spot and will make it a regular stop for us when in Gloucester.

First of all the family running the place are the best. I don't know how Dean doesn't get frustrated cooking and serving. My family loves the breakfast boats. They even let them subtitute sauted veggies for bacon to make it a little healtier. They also have the best BLTs and Tuna sandwiches. They're more like homemade than a restaurant. Very hearty homemade soups which is hard to find.

If you're looking for a great heart attack on a plate...this is where you'll find it. Great place.

I'd go all the time, but it might kill me.

We consider ourselves regulars at Georges and always enjoy it. It is homey, reasonable and portions are great. My husband found his new favorite omelet this morning, a cheesesteak bomb, loaded with steak, cheese and veggies. It was superb as was my stuffed french toast. I truly believe that Georges is the best breakfast place anywhere.

We love this place, the breakfast menu is great, and the bread is wonderful. We love the Mickey Mouse pancakes for kids and it just has a real old time feeling to the place where regulars meet and greet. The service has always been top notch and the prices are right. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

First off my best wishes are with Charlies and hope you guys are back soon. In the meantime I gave Georges a try on a friend's reccomendation and it is incredible. I had no idea that this place had such a great menu. I always pictured it as the typical and standard breakfast place. I had an omelet and it was superb. I sat at the bar and was able to see other choices coming out of the kitchen. Suprised to see sausage gravy and biscuits on the specials board, I really don't see that offered anywhere, next time I will give it a try. They also have these breakfast cups that looked amazing. Thanks Dave for the reccomendation to Georges it really is a great spot for breakfast.

If your looking for quality food, large portions and fair pricing you must try Georges on Washington st. The menu is very creative for a coffee shop and you can get the usual fare as well. Keep in mind this place is not "fancy" so to speak, it is a Coffee Shop and you won't find it to be quaint or quiet, but if your looking for one of my all time favorite breakfast joints this is it. all i have to say is 4 eggs 5 sausage home fries and toast cooked to perfection for 5.25. not too mention the best staff on the north shore. if you are in the area and do not eat at george's you are missing out.

Was a long time regular at the Dory but Jules is rerired and the place is closed. Have been trying different breakfast spots since and finally tried Georges Sunday morning. Very very good!!! It is clearly the best breakfast shop in town. It really took me a while to actually give this place a try because it is really rough looking from the outside. Don't be fooled. I tried a lot of other places and they can't hold a candle to this place. I was kind of surprised to have to wait to be seated, but once I was in I was very impressed. Trust me on this place you will not leave hungry and the prices are very reasonable. I sat at the bar and had a great conversation with a couple of regualrs while we enjoyed breakfast.

Spent last week visiting family in Gloucester and they took us to Georges and it was an excellent choice. They really are generous with portions and the quality is superb. Tried their Huevos Rancheros and it was different and very ,very good. My son had their breakfast boats which are like potato skins only with breakfast fillings. he proclaims them to be his favorite all time breakfast. I love these old, long standing coffee shop type places and this one happens to be out of the ordinary. You are really made to feel at home right away. Can't wait until our next trip to Gloucester so we can visit Georges again.
P.S. to the owners , Have you ever considered a Georges in Utica???

Been to Georges a lot lately and have been really impressed with service, portions, price and quality. This place is small and a little old looking from the outside but it is really a great place!! I must say they have the best omelets in town. Keep up the good work

Michaels in Rockport is now closed and I was told that Mike now works at Georges in Gloucester. Went over to try it out on Memorial Day and boy am I glad I did. Although Michael wasn't working today, the waitress said he was off, we tried it anyway. I got a Cape Ann Western and it was the best omelet I have ever had and that is no exxageration. My wife had a fruit cup which was decent and also anadama french toast which she said was wonderful. Although I will miss Michaels for it's convenient location I am really happy to have found Georges. I will certainly be back and will look for Mike on my next visit.

I've been here once before for breakfast! Very good! The cook is the same cook from captain's lodge. Very Good

Totally agree with last review. Thai Choice is consistently fresh and portioned to send you home happy. Food always very fresh. I also love Georges on washington st. it is consistently a quality visit every time. I am an omelet person and theirs are the biggest and the best in the city. I like that they don't nickel and dime you on them. You can load up all the veggies and meats you want and the price does not change. Their staff is very accomadating and the owner is generally milling around making sure everyone is happy. Hats off to them they are the best.

I am pretty much now a regular at Georges. They are clearly the leading breakfast place in town. I also like Sugar Mag's but they are much pricier and the quality of food is pretty much consistent between the two.You will not find a better value for your money and the portions and quality of food are outstanding. Georges will not dissapoint you and you can trust me on this one. It took me a long time to actually try them out because i was very loyal to another place in town, but when it closed for a time, I tried Georges and as i said am now a regular in there. Outstanding!!

I would appreciate it if you would stop telling everyone how good this place is.Years ago it was once known as a guys only place but now since new ownership, the place is always hopping and it is hard to get in on weekends. It may sound selfish but I liked it when I could just get in at any time I wanted. The first time I was asked for my name to put on a waiting list i thought the girl was just kidding. It really is a diamond in the rough type place and I am happy for the owners because they have done a great job with it. Maybe they could give me a VIP section out back!! selfish foodee

absolutely the best breakfast this side of Boston. If you have not tried it yet do yourself a favor, and you won't be shocked when it comes time to pay the bill. Foodee

Frequent customer of Sugar Mags but they are closed so I tried Georges for the first time. I was really impressed. Had to put my name on the waiting list on Sunday but they got us in pretty fast and it was well worth the wait. Their omelets are incredible and very reasonable for the quality and portions. They have a very varied menu for a small place and they really push out the food. I never really thought to check this place out before but am really glad we did. I wonder if they ever think of possible expansion because they are obviously very busy.

This place is definitely not to be judged from the outside. Tried it Sunday morning with friends for the first time and the food and service is tremendous. I had these boats that are on the menu. They are like a potato skin for breakfast topped with eggs, bacon and cheese WOW!!My health concious friends got oatmeal(standard but not bad) and another got a veggie plate topped with cheese that was excellent and bountiful. We asked the waitress and she said all veggies are fresh cut and it really makes a difference. When we got the check we were amazed at all the food we got for the price. Like i said don't judge this place from the outside, give it a try, you won't be dissapointed.

I was directed to Georges on Washington St. by a friend who frequents it because my usual place was closed for a while and my second favorite has closed permanently. what a find this place is. You have to try this place. they have great portions and pricing is very reasonable. my husband tried the pancakes with walnuts and chocolate chips and they were huge and delicious.I had an omelet to die for and you can't believe the size for the price.it was overstuffed with linguica, asparagus, brocoli, tomatoes and feta cheese. DELICIOUS!!!! You can add whatever ingredients you like and there is no extra charge and all the veggies were fresh cut. I think I discovered my new place for breakfast. Sabrina

Georges on Washington St. really the bomb. Portions and service are great. Best omelet I've ever had and pricing is reasonable. Little tough to park sometimes but well worth the effort. Keep up the good work

Excellent breakfast! Great bacon egg & cheese sandwich.

What hours is this place open? Would be a good feature to add to the site.

Posted by: andre at August 9, 2006 04:09 PM

best breakfast in town, even though i miss their amazzzing waffles they used to serve. but the pancakes are great and huge (i can only eat 1/4 of one!) service is great too! especially sammmy!!

Georges on washington st. is a great spot for men, women and children. We eat there every Sunday with our kids. not sure where you heard the no women policy but I can assure you it is untrue. You NEED to check this place out. Although it is no longer unknown (very busy on weekends) it is far and away the best breakfast spot around. Large portions, reasonable prices, fast and friendly service. trust me on this one, Janine

I am a woman, and I don't feel out of place. The meals are delicious! My favorite so far were the potato boat breakfasts. Not sure if it was just a special, if it was, it should always be on the menu. They were delicious!

In response to the no women allowed comment, you are thinking of previous ownership. i have run Georges for over four years and we are very family oriented. give us a try, you won't be dissapointed.

I've never gone into this resturant..always heard it was a MAN'S PLACE ?? Is that true? I was told hardly any women go there and if you do..you'd feel out of place (I've heard this for years from both men and women alike).I know it sounds weird in this day and age..and I've been tempted to go in many times..but the thought of walking in and seeing only men, giving me a look like I'm unwelcome..has stopped me.
Please enlighten me..is this true or not ?

Never had a bad meal here in my life! Great atmosphere, bountiful and delicious food and a great selection from which to choose. Enjoy!

Posted by: george burton at September 12, 2005 01:38 PM

This is by far my favorite place for breakfast, though the lunches are good too. But they make unbeatable pancakes.

friendly atmosphere, fun to be at and the food is always good and reasonably priced.
