Do you have a hobby or an area of expertise that you would like to give advice about in an online column? Do you have knowledge of local lore, geography, nature, history - stories that you would like to tell? Are you an armchair travel advisor, book reviewer, movie critic? Amateur or professional photographer interested in publishing photo essays? Do you own a business that you would like to promote in exchange for a column of advice in your professional area? Are you a writer or artist who would like to share your work with the community? Is your inner self really an Erma Bombeck or Dave Barry?
"Dogtown UnCommon" is a new feature at Cape Ann Web. Cape Ann Web is maintained as a community service/hobby. We have had a few inquiries about publishing essays, tips and advice, so we've created this new section as a place for members of the Cape Ann communities to share their stories and knowledge. We've also merged our previous plans for a separate history feature with this section.
At present, we have no plans to present new content on any kind of scheduled basis - weekly, monthly, etc. We will publish articles as they get submitted and will keep them on the site indefinitely. Our blueprints and plans for this feature are ...... trial and error! We will see what works, what people are interested in, how the current format works. Everything is subject to change and suggestions are most welcome! Please send suggestions for the feature, or Cape Ann Web in general, to capeannweb@yahoo.com (Do not send submissions for publication to this email address. Please see instructions below.) Or post a comment or suggestion at the bottom of this entry.
As a starting point, we suggest that submissions be 1000 words or less. While we hope to receive plenty of local stories and information, writings, essays, etc. do not have to be about Cape Ann. This section of our site is intended to be by Cape Ann residents - a place to publish your knowledge and talents about most anything, which can include, but is not limited to, our local area. We also welcome submissions about the area from visitors.
Submission instructions and guidelines:
We welcome contributions in the form of manuscripts, drawings, photographs, poetry, historical notes, etc., and we will be glad to consider them for possible publication. We request that all contributions be emailed to us at publish@capeannweb.com
In all manuscripts, single space between lines, allow word wrap to function line-to-line, and double space (two returns) between paragraphs. Do not indent paragraphs.
Submissions may be in .txt , .doc (MSWord), .pdf, or .html format. All photography and artwork must also be digital (jpg-photos, gif-artwork), high quality and emailed.
Save all photos at 100% and do not reduce, unless reduction is made necessary by scanner capacity.
Strict Privacy Policy: Your name and address is required to submit an article. No personal information submitted here will be published on this site unless requested and Cape Ann Web will not use the information for any purpose other than to validate the submission. Cape Ann Web will not sell or otherwise distribute e-mail addresses or any other information submitted.
Please include the following information with your submission:
Complete name and address should appear at the top of your submission.
A title for your submission.
A suggested category for your work. Categories are not limited to what is currently on the site. If you need a different fit - make a suggestion!
At the bottom of your submission, please specify the identity information as you would like it to appear on the web site in your publication:
Publish real name? If not, a pseudonym? Print address? Include email? Link to a website?
Are you a business owner or member of a community group? If so, include the name and contact info for your business or group?
You are welcome to include a brief bio (2 or 3 sentences) about yourself for publication i.e., "Jane Smith is a resident of Rockport. She has been in the real estate business for ten years and is an amatuer photographer. She has been published in Shutter magazine."
