Christmas Morning (make ahead) French Toast

1 loaf French Bread
8 large eggs
1 tsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. vanilla
3 cups milk
3/4 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. melted butter

The day before:

Grease a 9" x 13" baking pan. Cut bread into 1" squares and spread evenly in pan. Blend eggs, sugar, vanilla, milk and salt together. Pour over bread. Press bread pieces down so all pieces absorb liquid. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.

Morning: Bake uncovered 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve with warm syrup, cinnamon, powdered sugar, etc.

Variations: Add raisins, apple slices, pear slices, etc. before baking.

This is a great recipe for a Christmas morning breakfast. It is also a great Christmas gift. Prepare it in a disposable aluminum pan, cover with foil, dress it up with ribbons and bows, and include baking directions. Deliver the day before Christmas.
